Cybersecurity is the need of the hour. The growing dependency on digital platforms for information exchange, purchase, and transactions has made the data more prone to data breach and threat. Because of this, the companies are investing heavily in improving network security; they are hiring cybersecurity professionals for this task. Despite the growing importance of data security and network security, the demand vs skill gap is increasing. There are not enough professionals to bridge this gap, and one of the reasons for this is that the individuals lack technical skills, and some lack technical skills. Hence, we have got this blog highlighting the necessary skills that one needs to hone to become a cybersecurity expert.

Skills needed for Job in Cybersecurity

Skills to develop:

1.Security Incident Handling & Response- The first skill you need to focus on is that you must tackle the imminent threat from the violation of the network security or standard security practices. These could include threats like malware, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, ransomware, phishing, and more.

2. SIEM Management- A cybersecurity expert can manage and analyze SIEM tools and services. You need to create a system that can do the real-time analysis of the system and provide alerts to secure the system immediately.

3. Audit and compliance- The next skill which a cybersecurity professional needs to develop is to be prompt in action. They must review and audit the current security system of the organization. They must ensure that the company adheres to the regulation guidelines like FISMA, PCI DSS, ISO 27001 and 20000, HIPPA, and COBIT. In case an organization misses to adhere to this compliance, they will end up paying hefty penalties, and hence, as a cybersecurity professional, you must choose to follow these practices.

4. Analytical and intelligence- As a cybersecurity expert, one has to leverage analytical skill so that you can figure out the problem areas immediately and leverage the right solution as required. For this, one must be smart and well-versed with the network security system.

5. Good communication skills- As mentioned in the beginning, as a cybersecurity professional, one must have the right set of technical skills, but at the same time, soft skills like good communication and problem-solving skills are also important. Data breach and network security threats can be challenging, and one has to be able to communicate the same to the non-technical members of the team. Hence, if you wish to become a cybersecurity expert, you need to work on good communication skills as well.
